Area Organizations Team Up to GO RED
Alleghany Regional Hospital, Alleghany Highlands YMCA, CVS Pharmacy, and the Alleghany Highlands Red Hat Belles have teamed up to raise awareness about women and heart disease by participating in the American Heart Associations Go Red For Women Day. The entire community is invited to stop by the YMCA on Friday, February 6, between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. for free blood pressure checks and information about heart disease prevention. Sandy Kemper, RN, Cardiac Rehab Nurse at Alleghany Regional, will present special programs at 9 a.m., 12 noon and 6 p.m. on Women and Heart Disease.
Millions of Americans will help women in the fight against heart disease when they join in the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women movement this February. The inspiring movement helps women discover their unique lifesaving power by learning about heart disease and taking positive action to reduce their risks. It also encourages women to love their heart and Go Red in their own fashions.
According to the American Heart Association, the cause of every one to three deaths of women each year is attributed to cardiovascular disease. Heart disease is the number one killer for both women and men, but the good news is heart disease can often be prevented. Spreading the Go Red for Women and Love Your Heart messages raises awareness of heart disease and empowers women to reduce their risk. For more information about preventing heart disease, go to www.goredforwomen.org or call 1-888-MY HEART.
The February 6 event is free of charge, and the first 200 guests will receive a free gift. For more information, contact Alleghany Regional Hospital at 540-862-6212.
